A couple weekends ago Steve and I had the opportunity to go to Colorado to campaign for Mitt Romney! We left on Thursday and hit some bad weather in Wyoming so it took us about 13 hours to arrive which it should have only taken us approx. 9 hours. We had to stop every 2 hours (bus regulations) to take a bathroom break. It was such a beautiful drive up there :) Here are a few pictures!
I just couldn't get over the view I had :) So pretty!
Steve and I on the bus :)
We got to our hotel around 2:30 AM yes that late!! We both were exhausted and went to sleep right away.
Friday: We got up bright and early and got some breakfast and then got on the bus to head over to the Victory office they call it. We got in groups of 10-15 and got our housing assignments of where we would be knocking on doors. It was a lot of fun and really good exercise. It wasn't snowing or raining or anything so it was perfect. Each route we had about 50-80 houses to knock on and it they weren't home we would leave a flier on their door knob. I really didn't have any bad experiences and when people said they weren't interested or didn't like Romney I would just leave and say thanks for your time. We had to knock by ourselves and I was a little bummed I wasn't going door to door with Steve but it was more efficient to knock by yourself. We were in the area of Wellington to start and then moved over to Fort Collins and Loveland, Colorado. We had the smallest group but did good overall. We came back to the office in Fort Collins ate some dinner and then dialed on the phones for about 2 hours, encouraging people to vote.
Saturday: Boarded the bus, got our route assignments and went out knocking once again. We covered a lot of area this day and it was a lot of fun. Everyone was so nice in the areas I was in and it was a good experience. We got back to the office and we ate and called again. This time whoever had the most calls would get a $50 giftcard. I was so determined to win this so I called and called for 2 hours. I made sure to never go take a break or anything otherwise I would fall behind. Haha it was really intense and I ended up winning the gift card!!! I was so happy because all my hard work and determination paid off. Steve really wasn't focused on winning the gift card because he hated making calls. He's was pretty much watching how speedy and focused I was the whole time.
Steve and I with Mitt Romney :)
Both Friday and Saturday nights we went swimming in the pool and it was a lot of fun. We pretty much had the pool to ourselves!
Sunday: We headed to church early in the morning and just went to a local ward. It was such a nice ward and actually behind the building was the site of where the Fort Collins temple is going to be built. It was just a great big field but soon there will be a temple starting to be built. After church we loaded up the bus and started our trip back to Rexburg. We got home around 10:30 pm which wasn't horrible. This weekend was definitely a memorable experience for both Steve and I. We were both disappointed Mitt Romney didn't get elected to be President in the end but happy we had this opportunity to look back on.
That seriously is so cool and a great opportunity!! You have to take advantage of things like that!! So glad you did and got to experience that!
